Abstract
This inaugural issue of Education: Journal of Teaching and Learning (EJTL), Volume 1, Issue 1 (June 2025), marks a milestone for Mkwawa University College of Education (MUCE) in advancing scholarly communication, educational research, and innovation. The issue features seven peer-reviewed articles addressing critical themes in education within Tanzania and the global context. Contributions include an exploration of Julius K. Nyerere’s philosophy of Education for Self-Reliance and its contemporary relevance to sustainable futures; challenges faced by teachers in assessing oral language skills in English as a foreign language classrooms; and student perspectives on written corrective feedback in secondary schools. Additional studies examine the integration of environmental education policies into curricula, the experiences and struggles of adolescent student mothers, and the comparative effectiveness of teacher-centred versus learner-centred pedagogical approaches. The issue concludes with an analysis of globalisation’s impact on teacher education programmes, highlighting themes of curriculum development, professional identity, equity, governance, and innovation. Collectively, the articles underscore the imperative of transformative, inclusive, and contextually grounded approaches to teaching and learning. EJTL aspires to serve as a platform for scholars, educators, policymakers, and students to exchange knowledge, foster dialogue, and shape the future of education.
